MiEqui's Story

We’re a New Zealand-owned specialist animal grooming company designing and producing exceptional high-performance grooming products.

For five years our focus was on crafting New Zealand’s finest grooming products for dogs with our sister company, Mipuchi. The Mipuchi range is now sold all over the world – from NZ to Australia, Singapore to the Middle East.

A chat between our founder, Michael, and his Dad, Gary (an equine vet), sparked the thought that two of our hero ingredients – New Zealand’s native Harakeke and New Zealand Manuka Honey – would also work well on horses’ coats and skin.

Fast forward two years of equine grooming product research and development working with Gary, our local and international product formulation team, and a New Zealand former Olympian equestrian, Kallista Field, and MiEqui’s range was born.

Kallista had been using Mipuchi shampoos and conditioners on her English Bulldogs and kindly agreed to try the MiEqui range on her horses! She said she’d never seen results like it, with shiny coats and the quickest rinsing shampoos & conditioners being highlights. We were stoked.

We proudly support NZ Riding for the Disabled & the Kaimanawa Heritage Horses Trust. As we grow, we’ll extend our support to young and up-and-coming riders from all disciplines.

"Since completing my vet degree in 1977, I've advocated strongly for equine welfare. This commitment links easily and naturally with my role at MiEqui. In my 30+ year career working with horses, I've seen how vital grooming is to a horse's health. I’m not just talking about aesthetics or about helping cement the tight bond between the owner and their horse. Many of the skin and coat issues I’ve seen and treated over the years – and I’ve seen literally thousands of horses over the course of my career – were potentially avoidable. Obviously not all, but some of the skin and coat issues I've seen over the years were worsened by the application of harsh chemicals and detergents onto the horses’ coat and skin."

"Since 2018 my professional dream has been to create a range of safe, natural and most effective animal grooming products that make the most of New Zealand native ingredients, and to show the world that we can make these products better than anyone on the planet. I started this journey initially focusing on dogs – creating a brand called Mipuchi - because I couldn’t find any natural and effective NZ-made products for my pup, Bensen. Mipuchi now makes an exceptional range of hypoallergenic shampoos, conditioners, detanglers and fragrances for dogs. I was then blown away to find that two of our ‘super-ingredients’ – native Harakeke and Manuka Honey – were also incredibly effective when used on horses."
